About Us

ECHI:  A Great American History

More than 15 years ago, a group of local business leaders came together to analyze a common concerning problem:  the need for affordable healthcare coverage for small and medium sized employers. They realized as single employers, they had no protection from rising rates, no negotiating power, and no one to listen. However, when they joined together as a group, they had great strength in numbers.

Thanks to the support of the McLean County Chamber of Commerce, the Employers’ Coalition for Healthcare, Inc. was formed.  They had the ear of local health insurance providers and the heart of many local business leaders. Healthcare insurance contracts were negotiated enabling ECHI members to receive benefits equivalent to those of larger, local employers.

Today, ECHI has more than 199 members with over 3,000 lives covered with their health insurance contract. Organizational benefits have been enhanced to include valuable services such as discounted employee benefits and an online healthcare information center.

As a wholly owned subsidiary of the McLean County Chamber of Commerce, led by an enthusiastic board of directors (who are also fellow ECHI members), the coalition has a very bright future.  In the next few years, as healthcare costs and concerns continue to rise, we anticipate membership to increase by almost double and additional services added. We invite you to benefit from this powerful alliance.
